“They’re ahead of us again,” Markl commented as they exited the house.

“Doesn’t matter. That might actually help us this time around,” the king said, pushing him to the side. Micah walked away, his soldiers filing out of the house and following him. The king put a gold Reran sigil in Charles´ hand and a purse full of coins. “Get a new ship at North Port. As different from ours as you can find.”

Markl stayed by the door, confused for a moment. “What?”

Jona was the last out of the house, closing the door behind him. “If the pirates arrive at Mene’s port and see no sign of our ship, they’ll feel safe,” he muttered, patting the young man’s shoulder before walking away. His steps were still affected by his injury but it wasn’t long before he caught up with the group.

Markl looked down at the cobblestones. Charles had been ordered to get rid of the body a few hours ago but the kid’s blood was still there.

That’s what happened to people that felt safe around the King of Rera.
